Scan Your Cards: The Easy Way to Track and Complete a Collection
Spend any time in NRL card groups and forums and you’ll see the same question come up again and again: how do I keep track of what I’ve got? People have shoeboxes, half-finished spreadsheets, photos buried in their camera roll, and still no clear answer to “do I already own this one?”
That question is why we built the scanner. We wanted one simple flow that lets you track your collection and see exactly what you need to complete it, without the spreadsheet headache. Point your phone at a card, and it’s logged. That’s the whole idea.
How it works
Open the scanner from your Hub, allow camera access, and point it at a card. The scanner reads the card and matches it against the full set list, then drops it into your collection. No typing, no looking up card numbers by hand.
The key thing it reads is the card number, the short code printed on the back of the card (for example CDG164 or L40). That number is what uniquely identifies a card, which is why scanning the back is the trick to a fast, reliable match.
Getting a clean scan
It’s pretty forgiving, but a few habits make it near-instant:
Scan the back of the card and make sure the card number is sharp and readable. That code is what we need. Fit the whole card in frame where you can; it helps us double-check the player and team. And keep it in good light with no glare, holding steady. If a scan doesn’t match, move a little closer to the card number and try again.
One thing to watch: the serial stamp (like 025/725) on a numbered card is not the card number. The card number is the printed code. The serial tells you which copy of the run you’re holding.
Why the back, not the front?
Fronts look great, but they’re hard to tell apart reliably. The same player photo can appear across base, parallels and inserts. The card number on the back is unique and printed in plain text, so reading it is far more accurate than trying to guess a card from a glossy photo. It means fewer wrong matches and a collection you can trust.
